I've seen this mentioned on list before, and didn't say anything then. I
was told that the "fix" was also for my '85. My van was plagued by a
problem which could only be characterize as a complete cutout of the fuel
system. Tach did not drop, but ton long upgrades or long high speed runs,
it would just entirely drop. I would take my foot off the gas, and after
2-5 seconds, it would catch again (not good on 7% hills). Never did find
the problem, even through an engine change. It would only happen maybe once
every six months, so no shop was ever able to trace it. Several tried, and
extra ground wires were installed. We never really noticed when it went
away. We were driving along and I said, "You know, the van hasn't hesitated
in quite a while." My wife told me not to talk in front of the van and give
it any ideas, so I haven't, but it has been several years since it has
misbehaved.
