Subject: Dehler Profi conversion Vanagon Sighting
Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
Hi,
I was just at CDI foreign car repairs in Victor NY, and they have a cool van
in for repairs. (looked like the master cylinder from the trails on the
carpet and the speedo unit removed).
The van had the emblem of "Dehler" with the words "Profi" on the front nose
and trunk lid.
It is an 83 or 84 with round headlights, gasoline powered and with a 5speed
manual tranny.
It also had a fiberglass high-top with a lots of skylights. One main one in
the middle and smaller ones on the sides and back. There was a small rack
on the back on the roof. It looked like a moonroof over the driver
passengers. The van windows were smoked and definitely not original they
looked like they could open like a Chevy van window.
It was blue with light blue upper portion. The upper portion was a plastic
body molding all around giving it ridges or ruffles. The body molding ran
on the upper half about where the windows match the lines of the van. There
was also a ground effect molding. The van had 14" BBS wheels. (with non
Michelins P tyres)
Inside there was some fancy trim on the two captains chairs and matching all
the other seats and door panels. There were bigger speakers in the doors
and in the rear. There was a bench seat and a rear seat that probably
folded into a bed. The interior was brown and the dash had the additional
tray and little cassette holders where the regular ashtray sits. There was
a plastic molding extending the area between the foot vents and wrapped
around the 5 speed stick shift with a few knobs and switches (with German
babble) and the ashtray. The radio looked to be an upgraded cassette deck.
There was some wood trim extending on the dashboard on the flat area where
the radio/heater controls and cigarette lighter reside.
I did not look in great details in the rear compartment but there were lots
cabinets along the left side to the rear and what appeared to be a sink with
a shower head right by the middle seat. Wonder how they take a shower in
this set up.
The van had a 1993 inspection sticker but did have any registration. If
the shop has it for a while I will take some pictures of this "Dehler"
conversion van and find out who owns it or if it is for sale.
Has anyone else seen one of these (German?) conversions?
Cheers,
Joel Cort
