Here I go replying to my own mailings! Sad, eh?
We re-built Muriel's engine last week & all is well! I'm back on the
road again woohoo! 8-)
Regarding the head seal goop, we went with Herb's advice over Bentley
and everything worked out ok. I feel a little more secure with the
Herb method as Bentley seems to assume that there will be no block
pitting (there was & we JB-Welded them). Result: no leakage whatsoever.
On the cylinder stud seal goop, Bugformance in Sacramento suggested
using Curil-T, made by Elring. It was a bit expensive at $10 but it
smelled great! 8-) We applied a thin coating of this fruity-aroma'd
green goop to the cleaned cylinder studs & torqued them home.
No problems so far .....
The engine rework was a lot of effort. Herb's notes from the archives
were invaluable. I'll post later on how we did it & what we found.
The old head sealing gaskets were *horrendously* damaged!!

P.S - Blatant plug alert! Initially Bus Depot sent out the wrong rings
but performed heroically in redressing the problem. Their customer
service is only incredible! I judge a company not just on when
things go right, but what they do when things go wrong. Three
cheers (yet again) to Ron and the Bus Depot!! 8-)
