I agree with Matt Bulley, the TDI is an engine for the future for the
reasons he stated. However, fuel cell technology is coming along very
nicely. Anyone who has followed the fuel cell company Ballard Power will
know this. They are part owned by Ford and DaimlerChrysler. They have
several city busses in Vancouver and Chicago powered by their fuel cells.
They emit water vapour as exhaust. Very clean, very cool. They are
working on a car project for the California market. At least half a dozen
of the major car makers (including VW) have prototype vehicles powered by
their fuel cells. See their web site at: http://www.ballard.com for the
