Subject:      Coolant leak, expansion tank pressure cap


It looks like the coolant distribution tower just north of the engine bay on the passenger side has sprung a serious leak on my 1987 2.1 liter stock engine. It seems that the leak is near the large plastic 'cap' that is glued (?) on to the lower side of the tower, though I have not yet removed the unit.


At the same time, I don't think my pressure cap is properly releasing coolant to the overflow tank as the engiine as it should.  I bought a new pressure cap a few months ago when it seemed my last one was failing in the same way.  Could a faulty cap could have caused sufficient pressure that the distribution tower failed?


I'd also be interested in hearing about replacement distribution towers.  Are some better than others? Same with pressure caps.  Where can I find a reliable one?
