If it has not already been mentioned, you can add the fuel pump to the list of suspects. Our van would occasionally stumble and nearly die, usually within a couple miles of home, then clear up for the rest of the day no matter the distance. Seemed to be associated with some component warming to operating temp.

Finally stopped dead and required the van’s first tow home. Fuel pump. Never knew they could be intermittent like mine had done. Had two previous FP failures (‘88 Aerostar and ‘95 Caravan) that both occurred during sales calls after which the vans would not restart, and both more than a hundred miles from home. Neither made a stumble leading up to the failure.

Replaced it and had no further hiccups. Ironically, I had a spare under the back seat but had removed my tool bag during a cleaning frenzy and not put it back. Also ironically, learned in my driveway that my travel tools were inadequate for a component aged into position beneath the van.

An earlier episode with similar symptoms turned out to be the Temp 2 sensor, so a lot can go wrong and can present identically.

Good luck.
