More clarification ….
The stock Hatch release was a short bent rod right below the lock mechanism. As far as I know, many of the after market retrofits use a cable to do the same thing.
Just wanted to make it clear that the stock release did not use the type of lock release lever that the front door does.
I’m doing it that way, saw someone in the samba do the same and I liked the idea.
For opening and closing hatch…. Perhaps a strap rather than handle? Strap dangles when hatch open so you can more easily reach from inside?
