Any LED diode will have a current limiting resistance in series. This might
be a simple resistor or like in some modern automotive lighting, a constant
current source. Either way, a shorted LED will not cause a short circuit.

While not normal it can happen that way. The LED itself is just a diode
which has little resistance in the forward current direction and a driver or
current control is part of the bulb circuit.

Hi Dennis. Are you saying that when a LED light fails, it creates a short
circuit, along with all the consequences that go along with it (fried wires,
etc.)? That doesn't sound correct to me.

On the front interior light yes there are 2 ground wires. One is grounded
full time and the other goes to the door switches. For most the rear
interior light is powered from the light over the drivers door and the
ground is piggy backed there also.
At the tray above the light you can pull out that liner and then get to the
wires feeding the light. Just make a new ground. As that wire is really
undersized you could snake a new feed down to the cabinets and connect
there. While LEDs do in fact use less current-power the failure mode is
often a short.
