I’ve wondered if you installed an adjustable proportioning valve could you better dial in rear disk brakes.

I’ve certainly locked up mine (back brakes, anyway). Traffic, downtown Vancouver, sudden slowdown in front of me… stomped the brakes and squealed the back tires. Didn’t hit anything. Which was a good thing, since it would have been my fault (rear ender…).

Despite the many complaints and concerns about vanagon braking, I’ve found that it WILL stop as long as you are mindful about the weight of the thing and don’t let the brakes heat up on a long downhill.

The ability to carry - MUCH MUCH - more than normal when you pack it for camping or whatever probably gets all of us in trouble from time to time. Suddenly the vehicle is a lot heavier than it was before. This significant weight gain is not that common in a passenger vehicle, but I think the vanagon should be driven as if it was an 18 wheeler, and the braking is very much tied to the weight on the day.

So, if I’m getting it, Raimund and Mark (two guys that both know a lot more than I do) are saying the same thing. Bigger booster gives you no additional braking, it gives you the same braking with less effort. You’ll FEEL like your van is stopping easier.
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
What they didn’t say but I wonder … with the bigger booster, while more effort does not give you more braking, seems like it would be easier to lock up the brakes. ??
