When I've had to return a Walmart battery under warranty without a
receipt,, they simply use the manufacture date that is printed on a small
colored round sticker stuck on top, as the purchase date. Since I'm
careful to select the newest battery on the rack when buying (usually
within 1-2 months of manufacture), I don't lose too much warranty period.
