Get someone to crank while you rap sharply a few times on suspect ECU with
screwdriver handle. Any signs of life, ECU ignition drive and likely bad
solder cured by reflowing.
Otherwise swap 'em back, problem either stays with ECU or stays with van.
That will save you a lot of confusion going forward. If they both run
after stop, ECU plug contact or harness intermittent or ECU bad ignition
driver as above. In that case begin testing by rapping the suspect with a
screwdriver handle to see if engine stops.
Adding a foot (with super extra good, wonderful, very fine connections) to
the ECU ground wire will make things easier as will removing the ECUs from
the cover plates -- they're just mechanical protection. At one time I
thought that you must not ground the heat sink fins on some variation of
the ECU, but I'm lately convinced otherwise. I was right before or I am
now, your bet.
