Neil,
I just remembered something about those shoes I was so pleased with the radius. Just before xmas last year, when I had to fix my starter, I took the opportunity of the van on a lift to look at the rear brakes. I found the adjusting tab thing that is riveted to the shoe was broken on one. The broken bit was still in the drum. Sure seemed like "thinner than what should be used" steel. I tig welded it back together. I'll be looking at it again soon.
