The cable is adjusted at the throttle end by loosening the screw on
the barrel fitting that engages the throttle arm, and slipping the
cable end through it then retightening. Bentley says one mm slack.
On the 2.1l the closed-throttle switch will affect idle, but
probably not to the extent of 1800 rpm. If the throttle body is worn
out which is likely you may have to set the switch wihle the engine
is running. Before you try to do that, remove the throttle body and
take the cover off the switch assembly. Inspect it and then make
sure that the adjusting cam (zinc die casting) is freed up in the
steel mounting plate. If it's not you will strip the little ?3 mm?
allen socket trying to adjust it.
Check out idle controller module forward of right taillight; unplug,
spray socket with contact cleaner, replug.
That's a start, anyuway.
