Consider getting the torque converter modified with a different stall speed
to get the near lock up at a lower speed. Too low a speed and too much
torque will have it slipping and making a lot of heat.

Deb Downs of the world. I'm in the middle of an ALH mTDI swap...made even
more interesting by my desire to swap from manual to auto. I'm currently
projecting to have about $3500 into the entire project, including re-gearing
to a 3.27 R&P. I'm always baffled as to why the focus is solely on fuel
mileage and not on torque, drive-ability, simplicity, reduced flammability,
etc. If you don't want a diesel, don't buy one. The rest of us will bear
this terrible burden for you.
