Is this the resistor?
http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_1577_669/fan_resistor_alternate.html
I have yet to discover that resistor in my newer '88 but am now
curious.
I recall reading of this aspect, so apologies for rehacking this
topic, but does your van have AC?
This is my first time looking at the '86-'88 AC diagrams, but it seems
that if AC is on, it will (at certain times?) operate the 2nd stage
rad fan circuit, which uses one "part" of the fan resistor. (I
don't know how the "A/C Refrig. High Press. SW.", track 14 P 97.141,
figures into the AC)
If the connectors to this resistor were restricting flow, wouldn't
they would fail first? Since the resistor showed signs of failure, is
it possible the rad fan was on more than "normal"? (cooling system
needs attention and-or the AC was on a lot?) Or....
That EV part is not a lower wattage than the OEM Vanagon part?
No dis to your van!
Neil.
