You will need to review the laws of every state you will be traveling thorugh on your trip. Some states will honor your CWP, but might require you to let them know ahead of time (something you should do anyway) that you will be traveling through. I think in California you have to travel with gun and ammo completely seperate and the gun locked in a case or with trigger lock. This of course renders the gun completely useless in the need to use for protection but at least you can still have it for personal defense during hte nights camping.
I would still contact the State and talk to them about hteir lawas and if they honor you CWP from Iowa.
