lol. re
" I just love the rhythmic sewing machine clatter of
an idling diesel. Some folks are just hardwired as dieselheads."
I like that 'hardwired as dieselheads."
rythimic sewing machine ......sure, esp. in 6 cylinder. It can be nice
sometimes.
but what about the SMELL ??
Part of the reason that the greenland icecap is dimishing and melting badly
is black gook on the surface of the ice capand glaciers..............which
decreases how light/sun reflective the glaciers were. Now the darker
surface causes them to absorb heat more, and melt faster. ...........a
significant portion of that black gook on the surface of the iceap and
glaciers is diesel particulate matter from Europe. ( this from National
Geographic Mag, btw )
Diesel engines are a curse upon humanity. Quote me on that. They really
are.
I came out of the dentist the other morning. There was a guy with his Dodge
diesel Pick-up ...Cummins engine probably ..
that idling .....fill in nasty word here.............thing, was NOISIER
THAT 50 Subaru Outback cars idling in the same parking lot would have been !
they pollute. No way around it. Whether noise, smell, or atmosphic ..
diesel engines.........
counting all the trucks , cars, ferries, ships and what not ..
This very second there are a few million running on the planet ..
shortening the life of humans and damaging the health of the planet.
It's a large price to pay for better fuel economy and better low end torque.
At least vanagon diesel engines are small, usually being only 4 cylinders
and under 2.0 liters.
I have owned and driven them quite a bit, and repair worn out and blown up
VW diesel engines all the time, fwiw.
have fun !
