You have to do some wiring to utilize the Aux battery properly. You'll
want the main battery to run just the essential systems to make the van go.
You can wire the other stuff to the auxiliary battery only. I have mine
wired so that the auxiliary battery comes on line with a relay after the
main battery starts charging only. So if my aux battery runs down...no
problemo, van goes anyhow. You can also just rewire your big current
drawing stuff to the Aux battery and leave everything else as is...
Simplistic answer, I know and there are many different opinions on how to
configure your van for auxiliary electric power....Mine is crude, but it
works fine for months of camping at a time and has for some years. I am not
a big electric user but I do use lights and charge my cell phones and
computers and listen to the Sat radio.. I also have a small direct solar
panel with a lighter plug on the output that I push in to my power outlet
for the aux batt. if I am stationary for a few days at a time.
