Ralph I just painted my 82 black trim pieces looks great, my front grill is split in 2 pieces and looked like poop. I pull it off as well as bumper caps, side vents, gas cap and area, and mirrors and handles went to automotive paint store bought some Bull Dog which is a paint adhesive promottoer (help paint stick to plastic and metal) used that and balck trim paint all rattle cans and it looks so good. Even the split grill looks so good that you really have to pay attention to see the split. Redid the Vanagon tags as well last night, sprayed whole thing black, masked entire area with 1: masking tape got exacto knofe and cut around letters and sprayed then silver.. whole thing looks brand spanking new.
