Here's a link to a few photos of my iPhone dock. I still have the first
generation steam-powered iphone, but the basics should work for any. Parts
required include the standard dock (I bought an extra on eBay), along with a
12V power supply. I bought a cheap iphone cigarette lighter power plug and
hard wired it.
The key is to turn your ashtray around so the door hinges toward the driver.
This allows the wires to access the dock from the windshield side. I chopped
a hole (dremel) in the side of a spare ashtray (I know the color doesn't
match) and mounted the dock to a plastic support glued to the ashtray.
The ashtray is removable with the wires connected. The dock is angled both
for visibility and to allow the wiring connectors to clear the metal
structure behind the ashtray. Fortunately I'm cheap, so having never
upgraded my radios I use a cassette adapter to transfer tunes to the sound
system.
Probably easiest just to check out the photos, let me know if you need any
more details.
