It can't hurt to try Lucas Transmission Fix, I've heard of lots of people
with really good results with this stuff!

If you hear a "clicking" that increases with speed, that's your flex plate
ready to blow-up! Ask how I know, our friend's 90 Westy with under 100k
just had the flex plate (plate between motor and trans) break, and crack the
auto-trans housing (no core for those). click here to see photo of their

Replacing a tranny is much easier than replacing the motor... at least I
know it is for a manual, I've dropped it a total of 4 times in my garage.
(failed at 160k miles, got a replacement from Part's Place, failed and
replaced in 1,000 mile, warranted (I had to pay for shipping), then pulled
to do a motor swap (ended up having the motor replaced by a great mechanic),
then after bead blasting the van... blast matter got in the housing cause
rear main failure, resulting in the need to drop the trans for the seal
replacement / clutch.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I'll have to look up the procedure on
replacing it. I've barely touched the trans on this thing. I'm going to try
to ride this old trans out a little longer, since it only feels like it's
just starting to go. We'll see how long I can make it...
