Hello,
Coincidence?
I live in hot hot Phoenix and have had my '84 since new. I drove the
van for years and never had vapor lock symptoms at home or on road trips
until visiting Idaho about 15 years ago. I took the Vanagon to a dealer
in Boise, and they said it was a known problem. They fixed it for free
and told me that the fix was to drill out something in the fuel circuit.
It only took a few minutes. The fix certainly worked and I have never
had another problem. However, since then I have been through every part
of the fuel system for one reason or another and I have never found any
evidence of what they did.
I know that this post appears useless since it offers no fix. However,
perhaps my information will jog someone's memory of a similar fix of a
known problem.
Mike

This was discussed very recently, like last week maybe. It was suggested
that a separate ground strap be installed between the AFM and the body, or
perhaps it was the engine block (which should be grounded to the body
itself.
After much comparing of notes, that seemed like it might do the trick.
