Hi Mark
Speaking from a South Africa point of view...the T3 models have been
around as early as 1988...the only difference with the later models as
mentioned would be the upgraded vent control dials, and the over head
air condition units....We seem to have a lot more models as well..from
the early 2.1 right up to the 2.6i, water cooled.....the latest
production is in 2007.....The Microbus Exclusive which features rear
under seat cooler box...head rest on all the rear seat, and sliding
storage compartments under the two rear seats...as well as more storage
in the rear door panles..and a 2.6 water cooled engine capacity....They
seem to be more popular as a people mover.....ie Taxi....
Regards
Ebrahim

If the VW parts data is to be believed, RSA production of the T3 began
in 1995. Seems about right to me since I assume important tooling was
moved there after Hanover production ended.
