hi,
I can't actually say for sure if it's safe to drive without the circlip in
place.
It's possible that the geometry of things won't allow the outer CV joint to
come apart, clip or no clip.
the one I did....replacing a front outer cv joint on a syncro ............I
couldn't get that apart for anything,
and ended up cutting the old CV joint off, and installing a new one, with
new boot etc.
probably, if it was me, I'd install a new german outer CV joint with clip,
as long as the inner CV joint is good.
