Another interesting twin-engined thing was built for Emerson Fittipaldi to race in Brazil back in the late '70s. It was a VW beetle with two Beetle motors linked end-to-end, with the transaxle turned back-to-front and the engines in a mid-engine configuration. Essentially a flat-8 mid-engined Beetle, but more accurately a flat 4+4.

Lupo....Pooopo! Mini....Schminni!
The ultimate front engine/rear engine conversion, IMHO, is the Citroen 2CV Sahara. 2 cylinders up front....two cylinders in the back! A total of 48 neck snapping horsepower!! (More hp than my 56 Beetle) 694 were built by Citroen from 1958 to 1966 which makes John Cooper a copy-cat!! ;-) It even came with an optional snowplow!

BTW, VW Motorsport built a twin engine Mark II Golf in the late 80s to race Pike's Peak.
