My understanding has been that the Audi 5 cylinder has the same mounting
patters as the VW/Audi I4's and can mount up to a diesel bell housing. This
however is a problem being as you have a syncro, so you'd need to source the
Diesel Syncro bell housing which relocates the starter. Then i assume all
the diesel mounts could be modified to fit the I5 Audi engine and all would
be well.
Or maybe the Overland Kit still exists somewhere and all the South African
parts to do it right are available....
These are just my understandings and thoughts.
The Diesel Syncro bell housings and gas tanks I see for sale from time to
time, so they do exist.
