Michael,
After I B-quieted the doors, floors, and rear engine area,especially under rear seat. I added a couple of layers of rag sound and heat proofing mat over the engine, and under the rear carpet. I think it made the most difference of all. Got it at a place in Sacramento called Tognottis auto truck world www.tognottisautoworld.com . You could call them and ask the brand name.
I am still not satisfied though and will be putting more B-quite and hood liner in the engine compartment over the muffler and up the rear side vent area. Seems to me I am still getting to much engine transmission noise for long distance comfort.
Also, I think I may have discovered a solution to some of the excessive wind noise in the front of the van. Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) has some automotive/marine weatherstripping that I used to create a double layer weatherstrip around the inside edge of the front doors. Kind of hard to describe w/o photos. But new cars have a double layer of weather stripping so why not us!
Clean the paint surface with rubbing alcohol and stick a single bead on the inside edge of the body frame where you can see it sandwiched in there from the inside. I did the sides and top of the door frame with one continuous piece. It is black and looks somewhat factory. I think it has made a significant difference as well. Time will tell on this one. $10 for a 17 ft roll, enough to do both front doors.
Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HE7YQM/ref=pd_cp_hi_1/104-2294951-6618338?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_r=1E5729XSWY1V8ARMBWHS&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=277661601&pf_rd_i=B000I1QHA8

I'm planning to do some soundproofing in the door panels, floors or my Westy
(with goal of reducing engine and road noise).
I've looked through the archives and online sources.
There seem to be two leading vendors of self adhesive flexible sheets;
- Boom Mat
- Dynamat Extreme
The Boom Mat product is more expensive yet claims to be better
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Mike,
