And I asked a number of times regarding spark. Why ask for help and not
listen? We all have done that at some point. If he knew what he was doing,
he wouldn't have asked for help in the 1st place. Yes he goofed twice and
wasted a lot of folks time but we all can learn a little something and
I'll try to help again. We either help folks that don't know or tell them
to go to experienced techs. Too much grey in between.

All this BS .... I first advised you to spray a little
starting fluid into the intake. This would have
immidiately lead us to the conclusion that you did
not have a fuel system problem, but an ignition problem. From now on I
advise everyone to
hit the delete key when your address comes up.

OK, just got the Vanagon started. The more complicated this problem got,
the more convinced I was that I'd find something really easy/stupid. When
I discovered what the problem was, my first thought was to sell the
Vanagon, drop off this list, and hope you good people forget who I am,
because I am really embarrassed to tell you what it was. I had been
thinking over the past couple of days what had I done to the van prior to
pulling the injectors? OK, I had changed the ground strap from underneath
the relays to the head-easy to miss getting one of the grounds on the
head. Thoroughly searched all over the left side of the engine-that wasn't
it. This morning I remembered that about a month ago I had pulled the
distributor. But, I had driven the van quite a bit since then. What the
hell, worth taking a look at. It looks as though I did not tighten the
clamp enough around the distributor-it had riden up enough that it was not
turning! Pushed it down, tightened the clamp-van fired right
up. Soooooo, it wasn't the injectors, I didn't fry the ECU (whew!), it
wasn't the fuel pump, etc., etc. Several folks had asked if I was getting
spark-had I checked that days ago I would have found it. I was too
pig-headed to think it was anything but related to the injectors. At least
I didn't start slamming the company that cleaned them (WhitchHunter), or I
probably would have sold the van and dropped out of sight! Now, I'm
heading out to take a drive and see how it runs with clean injectors!
Thanks everyone for your help and support. Jeff (feeling very foolish)
