Gerry,
Check the wiring and plug for the TEMP2 sensor.
Make sure that you have a nice clean and tight connection.
I've had the very same thing occur in a great running van.
You may have a bad sensor, but chances are the blue plug slipped off or vibrated off enough to scramble the brain signal.
Oh Yeah when you drive on rainy, salty, snowy roads the road spash will be enough into this sensor/terminal to cause lots of missing and missfiring - ask me how I know...... This is not a Schimmwagen ......
Cheers,

Subject: Engine trouble, need help
It all started on my way home from Peterborough when my engine started missing a little at higher RPMs. I then changed the rotor and cap. Everything now seemed fine till I was on my way home from Manitoulin Island when the engine started missing a bit more at higher RPMs. Temp gauge was reading perfectly normal. Would stretching the the van (and wiring) affect the temp gauge? After 1.5 hour drive I stopped for gas to find it would not start anymore and it seemed to crank over a lot quicker than usual. Didn't really look or smell of overheating. I then figured it might be the coil so after 1 hour I found one out of my buddy's Spitfire. Tried the bus first and it started right away. Figured coil cooled and is now OK but used coil from Spitfire which got me about 40 min down the highway then started missing really badly. Let it cool 20 min then it started up again and made the last 30 min home OK. Changed the coil changed the plugs did a compression
test-160 on all 4 cylinders. It still runs rough and idles way too high at over 2000 rpm with a pretty loud pinging noise and blowing white exhaust then after a couple minutes sometimes run rougher with black smoke for a bit. I haven't dared take it out of the yard for a ride since.
Any advice would be great.
