You're right -- the Mach III is a fine razor. Darn good suggestion.
Whoever it was that suggested that I consider an old safety razor have
never seen my chin after I have shaved with one. I used to own a very
nice silver-plated one, but every time I shaved I cut my face. I kept a
styptic pencil manufacturer in business all by myself. The employees
were so grateful that they used to send me "thank you" cards every
Christmas with pictures of their families and pets which my annual
purchase was singlehandedly supporting.
And the idea of using an old straight razor anywhere near my tender neck
is just plain silly. I've been shaved by good barbers with straight
razors (hard to find a barber here in the States who even knows how to
use a razor, however when I find one who does, I buy myself a shave,
it's as relaxing as a massage). In Greece and Italy, barbers still shave
customers, but even in the hands of a skilled barber, a straight razor
requires a lot more patience and attention than I'm willing to give.
