Subject: Re: Need a pop top hinge screw to send to a bolt manufacturer
There seems to be no reasonable alternative to custom manufacture, unless a
washer is used. I looked at something called elevator bolt. It has the
threaded end I need, and a flat head like a washer. It is tightened with a
nut.Looks like a washer without the hole when installed.Reminds me, that I
saw donut holes for sale at 7-11 this morning.Hmmmm donut holes. No screw
driver slot in elevater bolts. I dont remember, does the figerglass hinge
have a nut for tightening,or does the screw driver slot do it?
Next are carriage bolts and step bolts. Both have the carriage square
thing under the head. The head on the carriage bolt is 14mm.Same as the
truss screw. So ,why not get a truss screw(no!). The step bolt is not
avaliable in ss,and few even know what they are. I cannot get a good
picture of one.
I think one place has a supply of bolts similar to what I need, left over
from a sale that went bad,but they are 18mm.Even better. I am working on
that ,at this time. However I still need sample bolts. Anyone fluent in
math know the square inch difference between 17mm and 14mm-the 1/4 inch
bolt shank area? What percentage difference? 18mm sounds best to me. The
washer might look weird on the luggage rack. Dontknow. Anyone do it?
I think I have found someone that will make them ,but they want to make
5000 or so. All the other people want to make 200,000 to do it.Either way,
I will be fronting out lots of money. The pop top bolts will have to wait a
long time if I have to do this.
The screws for the rest of the van(minus the utility boxes ) are arriving
monday. I will sell later in the week and post here, with pictures galore. I
will sell licence plate bolts in the package too.The utility screws are
going to be added later,as I just got a sample of the screw needed.I have
to send it off and get it matched up. 8 rear light screws ,8 front turn
signal light screws,4 rear side marker light screws, and 4 licence plate
bolts with lock nut and washer. Shipping is still up in the air. I am going
to use USPS,but probably priority mail because I want a tracking
number.Costs a bit more, but I dont need the headachs. Payment is by paypal
or money order only. My bank will want me to get a commercial account if I
start having lots of problems( This is the jpayment I accept for ebay
vangon store, too).$15.95 with the licence plate screws(up from $12.50
with the 4 licence plate bolts, washers, and lock nuts). Shipping may be 1
pound of priority mail($4.05) + delivery confermation(.50). Multipule sets
will have only a $1 extra shippping fee,as I will lash the boxes together.
Cute little Priority mail boxes. I have ordered a quantity of them. USPS
Priority mail will get across the country in two or three days. A bargin. A
1 pound rate for ups is much more.First class mail or some other method is
still a possiability.I will check them out before I sell. Most importiant to
me is the tracking number. I would think they will make nice gifts for
birthdays or Christmas.
