Subject: Redline 75-90 Trans Oil
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Hello,
I finally got around to replacing the transmission fluid in my '90 Westy
with Redline 75-90 Gear Oil. I previously have experienced very good
improvements with Redline MTL in both a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 and my
current driver, a '93 Nissan Sentra SER. With my Westy I noticed that
the car seemed to be quieter at freeway speeds as the noise from the
ring and pinion seemed to have been reduced. More significant was that I
have always had trouble engaging 1st gear when stopped. Now I have no
trouble getting into 1st (I have always selected 2nd gear first and then
into 1st when stopped). This has greatly improved my driving experience
in traffic as when the traffic light turns green I now have the
confidence that I will be able to quickly get the car into gear.
Previously I was fumbling a bit and never sure that I was going to get
the lever into first on the first try. With regard to changing the oil
the drain and fill plugs were very tough to remove. I would recommend
that when changing the trans fluid make sure you can remove the fill
plug first. Then work on the drain plug. With the drain plug there isn't
room to get a ratchet in there due to the exhaust pipe. I had to place a
wrench on the hex drive socket. I also purchased a one gallon jug of
Redline which allowed me to use one of the cheap hand pumps to re-fill
the trans. Overall I am very pleased with the improved shifting and
would recommend this product.
