We have two kids (3 and 5) and are still working on our system but here
is our general plan. I wouldn't worry if your van is not full. A
little extra capacity in each cabinet is nice since it makes it less of
a project to get stuff in and out quickly.
1. We don't leave everything in the van, but we do keep it all
organized in plastic bins and duffels so it is ready to go. The trick
is to pull stuff out of the van right after the trip, clean the dishes
etc, then put everything back in the bins so there is no scrambling
before departure a few weeks later. I do leave the stuff under the
bench and the flashlights, chairs etc in the van though.
2. Keep a list of the stuff you typically take. All but the
ingredients for specific meals are the same from trip to trip, so it
helps to review the list a day or so before you leave.
Generally, here is where we put stuff now.
Under stove
Lower right cabinet - pantry/dry goods
Drawer - utensils/lighter/knives etc
Fridge - More food (we use a cooler for the cold stuff)
Lower left cabinet - bungies, flashlights, misc
Under rear table
Dishes/pans (not sure I like this)
Under Bench
Propane bottles, lantern, tent/tarps/stakes/tools
Cabinet
Bike helmets, life jackets, misc other stuff (good place to stash stuff
while parked). Sometimes kids chairs go in there too
Rear
Chairs, luggage, table (if we bring it), sleeping bags

Subject: Packing a '90 Westy
Hello,
I have only owned my Burgundy '90 Westy for a couple of months and so
far have only had a chance to do one short camping trip with my wife and
2 young children. I love the vehicle and am anxiously looking forward to
my next adventure. My vehicle is going to be used mainly for camping
trips and I want to keep my camping equipment in the vehicle so it is
ready to go. I have seen some excellent lists of items that I should
take with me but I was hoping some people could provide some input on
where they put various items inside the bus. I was actually a little
overwhelmed by how many choices they are as to where stuff can be
placed. I am sure some of the more experienced campers have worked out
very logical locations for all their camping accessories. My wife and I
were also wondering the best way to take advantage of the fairly large
space within the closet. On our first trip we were losing stuff in there
as things got a bit buried as a result of us throwing a lot of stuff in
there just to get it out of the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
