Subject: intermittent stalling --fuel filter? Electrical?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
I was driving the 1984 vanagon 1.9 home and experienced engine dying--I
could let my foot off the gas and feather it back to get going again without
stopping--this happened 4 or 5 times on a 1/2 hr ride home. I am thinking water in
the tank--it's about 1/4 full. Should I pull the fuel filter and dump it out
to look for water? Could it be a ground? Is it a heat-related problem? I can
say when my wife stalled out this weekend the tank was at the same level. The
vehicle sat for 1/2 to 1 hr before I arrived to save her--I put the key in and
it ran like a a new car---I got gas and drove home, then I drove her to work
this morning and did a bunch of driving all day--no problem till I hit
rush-hour traffic. I also replaced the alternator 3 weeks ago with a cheap
replacement. Any and all advice or similar experience is appreciated.
Thanks----G.
