I've seen a lot of those scratched out or marked over labels and It's always
a mystery to me what I'm actually getting.
Years ago I purchased mufflers and tail pipes etc from Ford Motor Corp.
The mufflers and pipes were always in good condition but Ford obscured the
Ford name with a ball peen hammer on the mufflers and replaced the gummed
paper tag on the pipes with a grease pencil number that did not say Ford.
The same goes for Monroe shocks that came to me as factory seconds but were
always just overstock and couldn't be identified as perfect, seconds or
otherwise.
Then we get into Clutches: Borg Warner produced a rebuilt clutch line for
many years and always packed NEW product in the boxes labeled Rebuilt. They
didn't have a core bank in the 60s and since they held all the tooling and
owned the patents for LONG, Borg and Beck and Lype disk, covers it was
cheaper to supply a new clutch than to manage a core bank. (Reference, I was
Employed by Borg Warner 1962 / 1969).
In addition Essex, Wells, Prestolite produced almost the entire ignition /
switch / bushings line except the point sets that they sold under the borg
warner name. Airtex produced the Fuel Pumps and McQuay Norris produced the
Water pumps.
The Carb Kits were originally Pacco (recent purchase 1962).
The ignition line was originally SureHit (Recent Purchase 1961).
