Ok I have to chime in on this as I've nothing to say about my van. It's
in the Garage until April.... The temp this morning in Two Harbors (30
miles north of Duluth MN on lake Superior) was -20. The dog cried and shook
her feet in pain as she was taken out for her morning duty. We live in the
country and have a view of Lake Superior as it steams; the mile walk to get
the mail today is going to be very challenging. I take it all in stride. I
used to live in Antarctica and tell people I moved to northern Minnesota
because I wanted a warmer place to live.... but it's just a little bit
warmer. I'm sure the high today at McMurdo Station Antarctic well exceeds
the one at my house.
Here is some van content after all, a couple years ago I started my van
in -8 temps and left it to warm up, while getting ready I noticed a spot
coming from the back. It was motor oil and about 2 quarts was pouring from
the engine area. It turned out that the oil cooler gasket had broken from
the cold/pressure. It was an easy fix, and I'm glad it happened before I
had traveled anywhere. So the moral of the story ~ be careful with your
vans at these temps, especially check that gasket.
Cheers -Dave
