I did a conversion using these lights onto my '91 Carat Vanagon
(actually I have only done one so far). I did this conversion the
caveman way. I had a couple of outter high/low beams that were totally
junk (broken or had stone hits). I smashed out the glass, then cut away
most of the rear of the reflector but left a frame and the mounts in
place. Then I glued this to the rear of the Cibie H4 lens with a high
heat silicon. Works really well and if you don't goof around like me
the conversion would take you all of three or four hours (instead of two
years).
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Ken Wilford

I don't have any personal experience with the lights mentioned below,
but they do appear to be the Ceibies (sp?) from France. I have the round
version of these on my '87 GL. I'm running 80/100 bulbs in mine and the
lighting is amazing! The pattern of light thrown down the road is
perfect.
If you have any questions about fitment, contact Daniel at Daniel Stern.
He is very responsive via e-mail and he can give you very good advice.
In addition, he has all sorts of genuine heavy duty lighting connectors
for larger wattage applications (not like the wimpy things I have seen
from at least one list vendor). Daniel Stern Lighting shipped my order
to me very quickly and I was very satisfied.
You will note that he offers the lights with or without the "city light"
option. This is a small 5 watt bulb in the headlight shell that you wire
into your parking light circuit. It is only illuminated when the parking
lights are on. It just adds a little extra visibility when parked. It
doesn't really help in lighting the road if you are driving. Not only
that, having the city lights raises the gadget factor of your Vanagon.
After all, we all need a high gadget factor.
Other than being a satisfied customer, I have no other association with
Daniel Stern Lighting. They really know their business. I highly
recommend them.
Remember, always make sure that your headlights are aimed properly. It
takes a few minutes to set up, but it is worth it for proper lighting,
and you won't blind oncoming drivers.
Cheers,
Bruce
