Tom
i did some research on this type of thing back in the winter when i wanted
to test a cat on a newer car with out a back pressure test port. i think
that is what the port was for. although it is labeled as a CO test
port in the manual. since most exhaust gas analyzers "sniff"
after the cat they have taken this port out of most cars. i ended up
taking the car to the local dealer and they don't even use the exhaust
gas tester any more. they had to find the "old" guy in the shop to run
it for me. they just us a laptop to read the output from the second
oxygen sensor on OBD II cars. one guy that i talked to at a shop said
that bmw was the last to still put this port on their production cars.
any how in my research i found several kits to put a port in if you wanted
the port. the were marketed to exhaust type shops. the kits included the
drill and ports, perhaps 10 in a set. i set out today to find some of
that info for you but instead turned this up. it looks like most back
pressure testers are being made to fit a oxygen sensor bung.

if you wanted to install a oxygen senor bung they are readily available
both on the web and at local muffler shops. i bought one locally when i
fabbed my exhaust. if you are going to do it yourself be sure to get the
plug that fits in the bung. this prevents spatter from getting in the
bung while you are welding and i think helps to keep the bung from
warping.
