Howdy Mates,
Been away from the list for a while - and will be away for most of the
summer, but I thought I would update you lubbers regarding me and ole Billy
Bones.
I drove from Oklahoma City to Myrtle Beach, SC last week and had not a
single problem. Gas mileage varied from a low of 18.3 to a high of 20.5.
"Not bad," says you. I drove about 3,000 miles and used just under a
quart of oil. The bus is running very well - plenty of power, good mileage,
lots of fun. I'll try to post some pictures soon. Weather at Myrtle Beach
was perfect, but those damned bikers were there making so much noise that
the dead were complaining. Ah, people and their hobbies ;)
I got an oceanfront campsite at Pirateland Campground (where else?) for
$35.00 per night and enjoyed it thoroughly. Picked up some sea shells for
my ashtray and a small "Welcome Aboard" lifebouy to hang in the bus, and a
little ocean perch that's mounted to the side of a cabinet.
Oh yeah, gas prices suck.
My friend Maggie has found herself a Westy, finally. And she damned near
stole it! We pulled the bumpers, grills, mirrors, etc. off today to prep it
for painting. It needs very little body work, but the interior needs a
serious cleaning. With new paint, SA wheels and grilles, new canvas, and a
Subaru engine, Maggie will be driving a bitchin' bus (not that Maggie
herself is a bitch or anything like that . . .), and our driveway will
become the envy of all of Oklahoma. We're sort of worried about Billy Bones
and this new little blonde bus getting together, but we'll keep an eye on
'em.
You lubbers take care. I'll be lurkin' about the list for another couple of
weeks, then I'm off to New Mexico for the summer. Me and ole Bill Bones
will drop anchor in the high desert and enjoy those cool morning and evening
temperatures and those dry days with the blue sky and all. Yup, we'll enjoy
it.
