Hi TIICONAUTS,
I don't pretend to have any answers here but do have my own experience with
this conversion. I bought my current ride with 2400 miles on the 2000 Jetta,
fresh-out-of-the-box engine in it. Ed Rogers of Vee Dub Service in Ogden, UT
did the installation. In business 30 years and he has done his own
conversion into a Syncro van. He has now done 8 or 9.
The ONLY problem with mine was that it still had the interior
rumble/resonance when the tach got to about 3K, then would stop when it got
to about 4200 rpm. The fix was the snorkel in the left D pillar. That
symptom is entirely gone.
I have NO broken exhaust parts, no vibration problems but DO have what I
call a bearing noise that gets amplified by the crummy TIICO bracket that
acts like a drum. When I put a stethoscope (long handle socket wrench) on
the bracket, it is louder than putting it on any other part on the engine or
components attached to the bracket. I believe putting on the brackets I have
for the PS, alternator and AC would eliminate this, but have not done it so
I don't really know.
Just my $0.02
