Hi Volks,
After long soul searching, with three Vanagons and a Sunbeam Alpine, my wife
and I have come to the conclusion that we have two Vanagons too many, not
enough time (or money), and not enough room. For Sale:
1987 Vanagon Syncro GL, (owned since 06/95) 150,352 miles, standard 5 speed
trans, exterior gold, chrome bumpers, interior brown dash and tan velour
upholstery (middle forward facing bench seat configuration), PA inspected
through 5/04.
The Bad:
Diff lock inop
Idle stab valve inop
Some seam rust and other somewhat rusty places in the engine compartment
Wheel bearing (which one?) in the process of going bad
(I bought new wheel bearings for both rear, which is where it sounds like it
is, have not had time to put them in.)
Right front suspension stabilizer vertical link broken
The Good:
New AFM (B.D.) 01/03
Exhaust header pipes, wye and catalytic converter replaced with new 5/02
Heads replaced (AMC from B.D.) 5/02, 142,000 miles (75,000 miles on
replacement engine from VoA)
New expansion tank and cap, 09/01
All 8 CV joints replaced at 135,000 miles, 01/00
Incredible class 2 trailer hitch installed by PO
New rear heater core 10/98
The Price: $3000.00 as is
1991 Vanagon Standard, (owned since 11/02, wife's "breed rescue") 139,052
miles, standard 4 speed trans, exterior silver, black bumpers, interior
black dash with overall grey vinyl side trim/multicolor tweed fabric seating
areas, (as original, two aft facing jump seats, no table, no cup holders, no
captains chairs armrests, rubber mats as from factory) PA inspected through
11/04.
The Bad:
LH driver's power window inop, guts removed and standard manual winder
installed by PO. (switch and harness still installed).
GEX engine installed 20,000 miles ago by PO, starting to show it's heritage
by pressurizing the cooling system
Rear bumper has been hit at sometime in its past, not dysfunctional, just
ugly
The Good:
Minimal body rust anywhere
New expansion tank cap (B.D.) 11/03, (didn't help)
New forward ebrake cable 11/03
New muffler and tailpipe 09/03
New rear brake shoes 9/03 (VW parts)
New battery 07/03
New front disc pads 06/03 (VW parts)
New rear heater core 02/03
The Price: $1500.00 as is
