It's your high speed fan. They all kick in like that, and they all sound
like a rocketship landing in your front seat.
The thing is.... that your high speed should not really be kicking in,
except under rather extreme situations. If you have the A/C on and are
doing some hill climbing in hot weather... maybe....
Or are sitting in traffic with A/C on etc.
But under normal circumstances, only the low speed will turn on, which you
will hardly notice.
Get your cooling system pressure tested, and test the efficency of the
existing coolant. If it is old coolant, flush the system and replace with
VW autobahn blue r-11 coolant mixed 1:1 with distilled water.
usually you can also watch the temp gauge and see what is happening... when
the high fan kicks in, you should also see the temp needle slowly creeping
back down below 3/4.
