All factory cruise control systems have the pickup on the speedo and do not
use magnets on an axle. This option was available from '86 up.
Your "extra stalk" system was probably a dealer add-on.
Cheers,
Jeff

I bet you're right Mark. And, different versions for the same years,
different due to mid-year changes?? My '87 Syncro Westy has the extra stalk
below the turn signal stalk. Works with magnets on the L/inside CV. My '91
Westy had the integrated t/signal and cruise.
This "magnetized" application is simple, reliable, uncomplicated, and so
far, works. But then, I didn't have any problems with the newer speedo-style
one on my '91.

Hi Bob,
What year Vanagon are you dealing with. I have been giving out info about
the '86 and '87s that I have, and they have the speed sensor in the
speedometer. Maybe there are different versions for different years.
Thanks
Mark
