Joe,
I had something like this happen to me. In my
case the leak would happen only when the engine would
get hot enough so that the high speed fan would kick
on. You might try driving the van on some very steep
grades to get it hot and then park it on an uphill or
down hill slant to see if the coolant drops in the
same spot on the ground. After a season of camping I
put my order into busdepot for a waterpump and coolant
hoses for the waterpump and oil cooler pipes, took my
time doing the job. What was clear was the waterpump
had some looseness in it and all the hoses were
marginal but not the cause. The oil cooler pipes
showed clear evidence of seepage but not leakage as
seen by the crusty deposits of coolant that needed to
be cleaned before putting on the new hoses. I am
still not certain about leaks as there were so many
hose connections to redo that I wonder if I did them
all right and the hot season is gone so it would not
be leaking this time of the year for me.
I would not attempt the waterpump project unless
you have done something like this on another vehicle.
It is by far the hardest waterpump I have ever put in
but it can be done by an average shadetree mechanic.
If you do go in this direction buy new clamps for the
hose junctions that may be difficult to reach later on
and take the bumper and back plate off so you can
reach through to get to the pumps and hoses.
