Subject: I sold my 87 Westy, sniff!!! And sniff again.
Good day ladies & gentlemen, Well, after 2 good summers and 43K km (27K
Miles) later (6 provinces, 17 states), we sold (15.800$CAD, about 9800$USD)
our 87 Westy GL. This van will always be associated with good and pleasant
moment, I will remember this van like one of the most reliable old vehicle
I had. She never let us down or broke (Well, some small problem of course,
it's a VW!!!). Many dreams will be associated to this van, many nice
people, places, city, scenery and good time (Beer included). I will forever
have a westy, old, new or else. This is the greatest way of travelling with
a minimum of comfort, it is THE way to meet great peoples, see superb
countryside road, village, town, and city. It's the best crowd pleaser;
making friend with a westy is as easy as it can be. There is nothing like
waking up on the upper bed when the window is open with a sunrise or sunset
with an ocean view.
This was a difficult decision (believe me!!!, I was emotional and cried
many time all week, and honestly, right now as I am writing too) we (Me &
my Girl) finally took the decision to regress!!! to an old Westy (1974-79)
for the fun of it, for the nostalgia of the 70' and because it was not in
our budget to keep a 16.000$CAD vehicle not running for 10 month. We want
to see the rest of the world and that cost money. I put so much time and
effort partially restoring my westy that I came very attach to it, a lot
more that could have think of. I owned many bike's and car that I love in
my life but nothing come close to the love (and hate sometime) that I
developed for this van.
I will surely regret my decision, I know!!! Especially because it was in
perfect shape. BUT, I just bought (with my girlfriend brother) an 84 in
good condition from Alberta (3600$ CAD with 2500$ of invoice done to the
engine lately!!!!!!), He is bringing this one back across Canada right now.
We will share this one if I don't find an older one.
So yes of course I will keep my site running and I will update some stuff,
as the 84 as a 1.9L engine. If I buy a 74-79 Bus I will also do a section
on air-cooled engine. I would have never sold my van if I didn't have a new
westy project in my head to keep me going and traveling. I know, no heat
and more noise, less space and less practical. But less expensive also and
for sure (soory to say) a lot more beautiful than our square looking
toaster (he he he).
I have met many virtual friends here and I tank you all for your pass
comment and help, I hope to continue this great virtual relationship.
Keep the Westfalia spirit alive forever!!!!!!!!! Regardless of years and
generation.
Best regards to you all,
Ben (Ex 87GL owner)
