I also came up with that hose idea back in the early
1990s in Austin Texas, where my Westy A/C just didn't
make the grade. It really worked well, as does one
other technique. There are two problems with the rear
A/C system: distance and resistance.
The Dryer Hose (find a brown one): The hose can be
run along in the long brown "shelf" that is behind the
driver over the windows (you have to squeeze it in
there). I fabricated an adapter so one A/C register
passed all its air into the hose.
The bigger problem with Westy A/C is air flow
resistance. The rear register design limits the
ability of the blower to move air. If you remove the
whole plastic panel that contains the registers (4
screws), that fan shoots volumes of air right up
front. This works the best! The down side is fan
noise, which increases quite a bit.
