Lighten up Stan... It's "Car Talk"... these guys goof on everything and
everyone.
They aren't out to ruin VW... but they are right, the Splittie did suck
pretty badly. Remember they get their survey data from "Murky Research"
and their staff statistician is "Marge N. O'vera"...
Sheese... since 1996,

I took a look at the site and I wouldn't put any importance at all on
their selections.
They've left off the #1 Worst the GMC Diesel Passenger Cars / Pickups of
the 80s.
They left off the Cadillac with the 4/6/8 engine and the 266 cid
Aluminum
block of the 83 year model.
They left off the down sized Ford Thunderbirds of the 1976-79 and the
LTD
of the same era.
I agree with the Chevette (mine had an Opal engine and tranny, got my
money back on a class action lawsuit)
Chrysler is barley represented and they've had a twenty year loosing
streak.
Jump into that Jag and replace the rear main seal every ten thousand
miles at repoff prices or get a self destruct Datsun 300z of any year.
The first Mazda Rotary (1970 I believe) was the first self destruct
vehicle I cam remember.
Lexus would have to go down as the most expensive to maintain past
20,000
miles, with scheduled service intervals that cost $600.00 +.
I don't know the source of their information but it appears that they've
only chosen to choose older vehicles that were manufactured by companies
not currently advertizing with them.
If you disagree with those fools at http://cartalk.cars.com/ we can do
our own survey and submit it and see what they come back with.
You've already got my list above.
It would be interesting to see where they got their information. I fully
understand about the VW Van being on the list. A lot of perople had bad
drug reactions back in the late sixties and seventies.
