Subject: [WetWesties] 1985 Westy Price Reduction...
Hi all...
We REALLY need to sell our '85 GL Westy (Lifeboat).
It's become a DIRE NEED to pull the cash from her. I've been asking $8500.00
but can come way down on that number now...
This really is a nice one... looks & runs great with only a few
detractors...
PLEASE help us sell her... If you or anyone you know (or don't know) or even
a dealer who could give us a fair price are interested , please let us
know... the $ is for medical needs...
THANKS!
Here are her particulars...
Because we really need the cash... we need to let go of our 1985 Vanagon GL
Westy (Lifeboat)... we'd rather hold on to her... but times are tough...
We've owned her since 9/1/2002... 109k miles... Gold with white top... Brown
& beige interior... No engine/tranny leaks... Runs smooth and clean... Very
clean and in excellent condition... Good body... No rust... A/C...
AM/FM/Cassette... Rear hatch screen cover... All privacy curtains (including
front)...
Head gaskets at 52,663 miles... Transmission rebuilt & new water pump at
85,702 miles... New tires at 104,057 miles... New starter at 106,657
miles... New (left side) & inspected/cleaned (right) CV joints at 108,263
miles... New Oxygen Sensor at 108,877 miles...
Some minor belt chirping... Missing City Water & Water Tank Filler door
flaps (covers)... Needs new skylight or skylight bodge (leaks some)... All
camper equipment works well... A/C needs charging... All lights &
accessories work... No major interior/exterior flaws... No canvas rips...
small tear in Poptop window screen... Two small nicks in windshield...
I've also discovered these two items just recently...
1) I need to replace the front heater temperature control valve up under the
spare tire... The part is around $15.00 and is pretty easy to replace,
although care should be taken to spill as little coolant as possible (use
clamps on the hoses) while replacing it and to "burp" out the air bubble
that gets into the system as a result of the repair...
and... a recent servicing at Buttera's found this...
2) A seal between the tranny and the transfer case (or something like that)
needs to be replaced... either now or eventually depending on the
following...
Here's the scoop...
Fluid from the high pressure side seeps (VERY slowly) through the worn seal
is and mixing with the lower pressure side... a slow seep... and the fluids
are different weights... the heavier rides under the lighter... at
servicing, the heavier oil is drained away from under the lighter and the
two fluids are replenished...
Buttera Motors here in Kirkland is my garage and they tell me that the
problem is not really a serious one in the short term if one is just driving
around town, etc... the excess fluid (which is heavier) that seeps through
and mixes isn't a serious problem if the two fluids are regularly
semi-drained and reset to proper levels every oil change (3000 mile
service)... they said they could add that piece to my regular service visit
for another $10.00 or $15.00...
However... if one was planning a longer trip of a few thousand miles over a
month or two, they recommend that the seal be replaced... they quoted me
about $400.00 for the work...
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...
