Andrew and Doug,
I feel I can contribute some info here so I will speak up.
The Vanagon Transporter line (Double-Cab, Single-Cab and Cargo Van) was
imported to Canada from 1985 until 1991.
They were available with rear wheel drive, automatic and Syncro
transmissions.
None of these models were offer for sale by VW of America.
So the ones that you see in the US today were all privately imported.
Most of these vehicles came in from Canada, because of the ease of importing
them.
If you look at some of the better classified web sites you will find these
vehicles for sale.
Occasionally fellows on the list will have them for sale.
If you are really interested e-mail me and I give you the details on a few
Double and Single-Cabs that are for sale.
I have personally owned 12 Double-Cabs and one Single-Cab.
So I have a good collection of photos of these type of Vanagons, that I can
share.
Cheers
Glen
