rebuilt in and was surprised to see that the brand new bushings still
allowed flex. Rock the wheel back and forth and you can see the bushings
allow the rack to move back and forth a little...a little more than might
seem normal. An alignment guy thought mine were shot, but the new ones
moved the same as the old ones.<
well, he says that's what's causing my alignment to not remain where he sets
it. how do you deal with that one? he says I have a little bit of tread
separation too that's causing the front end to drift a bit one way or the
other depending on which tire is on which wheel on the front. maybe it's
just time for new tires, eh? seems pretty weird though... the alignment guy
is very obviously sharp... has a vw bus himself, altho it's a loaf... but
still you'd think he'd know about that if you're right.
now I'm really confused. anybody else have experience with this one?

believe they are not cheap bushings.

mech informs me that the entire rack and pinion assembly is moving because
of worn out mounting bushings. no one here seems to have (but that's not
unusual living in the middle of nowhere on the big island). have perused
the bus depot web site and don't see them. before I started calling
around... does anyone have suggestions as to where to locate them? looks
like there are two on each side... an upper and a lower.
